Where Spheres Intersect is part of Geo Art Cache.
9 caches have been hidden at Upper Wharfedale sites with obscure or unusual themes. The list of themes includes cycle hill climbing, fell running, flora and fauna, architectural details, and minor historic events.
At each cache a part grid reference is given to identify the location of a final ‘prize’ cache from which finders will have the opportunity to claim a limited edition artist’s book that takes as its theme the storys of the cache locations.
The scale of the challenge is graded to allow cachers to claim minor ‘prizes’ when they have successfully found 3, 6 and 9 of the sites to allow for completion over a series of visits rather than in one go.
Cache locations have been identified through research and consultation with local contacts and then on the ground to find suitable hiding places that conform to geocaching codes of conduct.
The project was advertised at the Leeds International Contemporary Artists Book Fair held in mid-March 2011. A cache was located near the venue to raise awareness of artsist’s books among geocachers and a presence at the fair made the audience at the fair aware of geocaching. Caches were sited in mid-May and will stay in place and be maintained for at least the rest of 2011.
